Incheon National University (President Injae Lee) announced that it has been selected for the “2025 Global Basic Research Laboratory Support Program (G-BRL)” hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The G-BRL program is a government-funded initiative designed to enhance the nation’s basic research capabilities by supporting small-scale research groups. It selects research teams under two categories — Advanced Type and Pioneering Type — to foster outstanding researchers who will lead the future of science and technology in Korea.
Professor Wonjong Lee (Principal Investigator) of the Department of Biotechnology was selected for the Advanced Type and will lead the research project titled “Laboratory for Precision Control of Neuroinflammation via Engineered Exosome-Based Multi-Mechanism Therapeutics”, in collaboration with Professors Byunghee Hwang and Dongtaek Lee from the same department.
Over the next three years, the research team will work on generating cell lines optimized for multi-dimensional screening and engineered exosome production for effective brain delivery. The team will also optimize and develop core exosome technologies. Through this, they aim to overcome the limitations of current therapies for neuroinflammatory brain diseases — including traumatic brain injury and Parkinson’s disease — and contribute to the advancement of personalized precision medicine.
